Bill of complaint against William Jenny [Janney?], Superior Court of Chancery, Staunton, 1803-1816.

This suit brought in November 29, 1803, and the final decree issued in 1816, in Hampshire County, West Virginia (part of Virginia until 1754), concerns certain land intended to be deeded to Marshall by James M. Marshall. The land was in the Northern Neck area of Virginia, and a dispute arose as to the legality of a patent obtained by Ignatius Wheeler in 1788 on the said tract. This is actually an amended bill of complaint written, but not signed, by John Marshall. Included is a signed acknowledgment by James M. Marshall that he is willing to convey the land to Marshall.
